The all-rounder was struck on the little finger of his right hand while practicing ahead of the recently-concluded tri-series. While he was subsequently ruled out of the series, there were major clouds on his participation in the T20 World Cup 2022.
New Zealand have not announced his replacement and have kept the all-rounder in the squad for now. However, he missed their opening game against defending champions Australia and the timeline of his return is not yet clear.
Daryl Mitchell was one of the key players that helped the Kiwis reach the final of the last edition of the event and his absence will leave a huge hole in their middle order.
