The right-handed batter was supposed to take a key position in the South African batting order. However, his index finger was broken while fielding in a Test match against England. The injury ruled Rassie van der Dussen out of the Tour to India alongside the T20 World Cup 2022.

Briefing about Rassie’s injury, the CSA’s convenor of selectors quipped, “Rassie – we are all aware that he broke his finger a week ago. He went for surgery. It will take up to six weeks before he has recovered. Unfortunately, the timing of his injury didn’t come at the right time.”

In Rassie van der Dussen’s absence, Rilee Rossouw and Aiden Markram will have to fill the void in the Proteas’ batting unit. Dussen was a key man for South Africa and now someone has to put their hands up to fill his shoes.
