VIDEO: Sam Curran exhibits football skills in the build-up to Danushka Gunathilaka’s run-out

Sri Lanka travelled to England for a brief tour comprising 3 T20Is followed by as many ODIs. The first two T20Is have been done and dusted. The hosts comfortably won the first two games without any fuss. England won the first game by 8 wickets to take the first lead in the series.

They continued their winning formula in the second T20I against Sri Lanka at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. The hosts restricted the depleted Lankan side for 111/7 in their quota of 20 overs. Kusal Mendis top-scored with 39 off 39 balls. England bowlers stuck to their basics and performed really well.

Mark Wood and Adil Rashid took 2 wickets apiece while the likes of Sam Curran and Chris Jordan settled for 1 wicket each. Meanwhile, the second innings was reduced to 18 overs due to rain and the hosts were given a DLS target of 103.

England didn’t look confident in the run-chase as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Sri Lankan bowlers managed to reduce the hosts to 36 for the loss of 4 wickets inside 7 overs. While they tried to get back into the game, England took the game away from the opposition. 

The likes of Sam Billings and Liam Livingstone added a vital 54-run partnership for the fifth wicket before Billings departed for 24. On the other hand, Livingstone remained unbeaten on 29 and was the top run-scorer in the run-chase as England beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets.

The cricket fraternity has witnessed countless unique run-outs during the passage of the play. During Sri Lanka’s batting, Sam Curran showcased his brilliant football skills to get rid of opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka.

The incident happened during the third ball of the second over when Curran bowled a brilliant delivery and to which Avishka Fernando failed to time it well and quickly took a single. Meanwhile, Gunathilaka responded to his partner by running towards the striker’s end. By the time he reached the crease, Curran already used his right foot to hit the stumps. Gunathilaka departed after scoring just 3 runs.
