The auction of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin at 3:00 PM (IST). The auction will take place in Chennai with a total of 292 players set to go under the hammer. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have asked the franchises to use only 75% of their purse value in the auction this year.

The franchises retained and released a lot of players a month before the auction. Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are yet to win a title released 10 of their players including big names like Dale Steyn, Chris Morris and Aaron Finch.

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings are also expected to be busy in the auction as they have a huge budget to spend after releasing some of their players. Punjab Kings, who changed their name ahead of the start of the new season have the highest remaining budget of 53.20 cr in the bag.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and defending champions Mumbai Indians have the least amount to spend in the auction compared to the rest of the franchises.

Some of the notable released players who will be available in the auction are Steve Smith, Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, Chris Morris and many more. According to the latest update, Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim registered his name in the auction at the last moment. His name was added after England fast bowler Mark Wood withdrawn his name citing personal reasons.
