“I won’t talk about him” – Ravichandran Ashwin takes dig at Sunil Narine’s bowling action

Ravichandran Ashwin reckons Sunil Narine's release point is wrong.

Ravichandran Ashwin made the headlines after he took a swipe at Sunil Narine’s bowling action on his official YouTube channel. Sunil Narine’s bowling action was something that has been questioned in the past.

The Caribbean has faced controversy over his bowling action for potentially exceeding the 15-degree elbow extension limit set by the ICC. As a result, he faced many temporary bans from international cricket.

Each time his bowling action was reported by the match officials, Narine was required to undergo an assessment. After each report, the spinner worked on shaping his bowling action such that it complies with ICC regulations.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons why it has affected his international career. He has been cleared to bowl multiple times after such bowling assessments at an ICC-accredited testing center, only to be reported again later by the match officials.

Ravichandran Ashwin refuses to talk deep about Sunil Narine’s bowling action

Jasprit Bumrah and Sunil Narine are the only two bowlers who kept the batsmen in check in IPL 2024. Notably, they are the only two bowlers who maintained economy rate of less than 7, while also accounting for 10 dismissals apiece.

Ravi Ashwin who spoke about both bowlers recently praised Bumrah for having an edge over the other pacers owing to his release point. Furthermore, he said he doesn’t want to talk about Sunil Narine. The off-spinner added that Narine’s action is wrong according to his policy.

“Bumrah has a really good unique point – He has got a distinct advantage compared to other pacers due to his release point. I won’t talk about Sunil Narine. It’s wrong according to my policy. Narine was also getting hit 2-3 seasons ago. This season he’s been outstanding. But let’s not get into that topic,” Ravichandran Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
