“Rohit and Hardik are good friends” – Lasith Malinga assures healthy dressing room atmosphere ahead of IPL 2024

All eyes will be on Hardik Pandya in the IPL 2024.

Mumbai Indians (MI) bowling coach Lasith Malinga has assured that everything is well in the team’s dressing room and there’s no rift between players ahead of the IPL 2024.

A sense of unhappiness developed amongst fans after the five-time champions traded Hardik Pandya back from Gujarat Titans (GT) and named him their new skipper. The decision to sack Rohit Sharma as the leader of the pack didn’t settle down well for a majority.

The controversy sparked after Rohit Sharma’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, openly criticised the head coach, Mark Boucher, for his untrue comments on the captaincy change. In an interview, he had called it a sporting decision and said it would also help the Mumbai-based opener focus on his batting.

Since then, there have been many discussions on the internet over the disputed decision. Even many former cricketers and pundits termed the Mumbai Indians’ move wrong. Reports also emerged about the possibility of a rift between the two Indian cricketers.

However, in a recent interview, Lasith Malinga insisted that there is no problem between Rohit and Hardik and in fact, they are good friends. He also talked about the all-rounder’s incredible performance with GT over the past two seasons.

“Rohit and Hardik are good friends. He went to GT and won the IPL, then finished runner-up. So, he has good experience and he has a good bond with boom (Bumrah), Rohit. We have a good unit,” he said.

Mumbai Indians (MI) new skipper Hardik Pandya has already joined the camp and started preparations for the IPL 2024. He would be eager to register a successful campaign as a leader as he did for Gujarat Titans (GT).

Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, has yet to join the group. While there’s no concrete information about the date, he could be arriving in a day or two.
