Rajasthan Royals ran through ups and downs in the ongoing season of the IPL. Sanju Samson-led team showcased a glimmer of hope after they defeated Punjab Kings by 2 runs. It led the fans into thinking that they are back on track to win games.

However, things turned upside down after they lost to Delhi Capitals in the 36th game of the IPL at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Interestingly, RR followed their basics ever so well and even made it tough for Delhi Capitals’ batsmen.

Rishabh Pant-led team found support in the form of Shreyas Iyer. The right-handed batsman chipped in with 43 off 32 balls with the help of 1 four and 2 hits over the fence. The likes of Chetan Sakariya and Mustafizur Rahman took 2 wickets each.

The Royals restricted Delhi Capitals to 154/6 in 20 overs. RR just had to bat well to win the game but they took a complicated route in the run-chase. In the end, they failed miserably and ended up with 121/6 in their quota of 20 overs.

RR captain Sanju Samson remained unbeaten on 70 off 53 balls. Sadly, he didn’t get support from other batsmen. DC won the game by 33 runs and topped the points table. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson has been fined INR 24 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate during the game against Delhi Capitals.

If the skipper is found to commit the same offence again, then he will be receiving a one-match ban. Talking about the same, the BCCI said: “The Rajasthan Royals have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi on September 25.”

The remaining members of the playing XI have also been fined but lesser than either INR 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their individual match fee. Rajasthan Royals are currently placed seventh in the points table with 4 wins and 5 defeats.

They will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the next game at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on September 27.
