IPL 2021: KKR captain Eoin Morgan fined Rs 24 lakh for slow over-rate against Mumbai Indians

Eoin Morgan is one repetition away from getting a one-match ban.

Kolkata Knight Riders ran through a terrible experience in the first leg of the IPL 2021. They failed to hit the jackpot across all three departments and were the eventual losers more often than not. Ahead of the second phase of the IPL, they were at the seventh position in the points table.

They managed to rack up only 2 wins from 7 games so far. However, the tables turned upside down during the second phase of the IPL. KKR sorted out their woes before it’s too late and right now, they are placed fourth in the IPL 2021 points table.

The Knight Riders fabulously started the second leg by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 9 wickets. With that victory, they jumped to fifth in the points table. Eoin Morgan-led KKR outsmarted the mighty Rohit Sharma & Co by 7 wickets in their most recent game at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Eoin Morgan fined INR 24 lakh for slow over-rate

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan finds himself in a spot of bother after he was fined Rs 24 lakh for a slow over-rate against Mumbai Indians. On the other hand, the rest of the members of the KKR playing XI were each fined a lesser of either Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their individual match fee.

Eoin Morgan will be slapped with a match ban if the team has one more slow over rate. “The Kolkata Knight Riders have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Mumbai Indians at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi on September 23,” according to an official IPL statement.

“As it was the team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan was fined ₹24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the playing XI were each fined lesser of either ₹6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their individual match fee,” the statement added.
