Eiden Markram executes a perfect pull shot against Sri Lanka

Meanwhile, South African cricketer Aiden Markram made the headlines after he deftly executed a pull shot to perfection against Sri Lanka in the first ODI at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Markram was the standout performer for the Proteas in the first ODI.

The right-handed batsman led the batting unit by example during the run-chase. Earlier, Sri Lanka batted first and posted a super total of 300/9 in their quota of 50 overs. It’s really been a long time since the Lankans touched the 300-run mark in One Day Internationals.

Avishka Fernando brought up his third ODI century in a grand fashion. He scored 118 runs off 115 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and 2 sixes. Asalanka smashed 72 off 62 balls including 6 fours and a six. Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj took 2 wickets each for the Proteas.

During the run-chase, Aiden Markram approached the innings with caution and aggression. The right-handed batsman took his batting to the next level by playing some sensational shots. In the process, he went on to score a brilliant half-century.

Markram ended up scoring an impressive 96 off 90 balls with the help of 5 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 106.67. The best part of the game was witnessed during the last ball of the 7th over when Markram played a pull shot off pacer Dushmantha Chameera.

The right-arm fast bowler delivered a short-pitched ball and to which Markram dispatched it into the stands. Apart from him, Rassie van der Dussen played a surreal knock as well. He scored 59 off 59 balls with the help of 6 fours.

Sri Lanka bowlers managed to get back into the game despite leaking runs. They kept the Proteas in check and the visitors managed to score 286/6 in 50 overs. Sri Lanka won the game by 14 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
