Who would have thought run-machine Virat Kohli would get out for the first ball duck in an IPL game. However, the unthinkable has happened. Such has been the last couple of years for the former Indian skipper. Run-outs, unlucky decisions, soft-dismissals – nothing has been working for Virat Kohli recently.

Virat Kohli was dismissed for a golden duck in the 31st match of the IPL 2022 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants.

Lucknow Super Giants’ skipper KL Rahul won the toss and invited the Royal Challengers to bat first. The Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera bowled with the new ball for the Super Giants, and he struck early to consume Anuj Rawat on the fifth delivery of the first over.

After the fall of Anuj Rawat, RCB’s leading man Virat Kohli entered the arena. However, he played the very first delivery right to the hands of Deepak Hooda at the backward point. It was a harmless good-length delivery outside the off-stump with some extra bounce. Kohli thought to work it down for a single in the offside but got undone with the bounce. The ball took the thickish outside edge to Deepak Hooda, who made no mistake at the backward point.

The crowd was stunned as the poor form Virat Kohli continued. It was his first duck since the 2017 IPL and the only 4th ever golden duck in his IPL career.

Royal Challengers Bangalore in trouble

At the time of the writing, Royal Challengers Bangalore were in a spot of bother with three wickets down inside the powerplay. The Reds are 49/3 in 6.1 overs, with Faf du Plessis and Suyash Prabhudessai present at the crease.

After the fall of two wickets, Glenn Maxwell tried to counterattack and scored 23 runs off 11 deliveries. However, Krunal Pandya soon consumed the Aussie all-rounder, with Jason Holder grabbing a magnificent catch.
