3 players who can swap Shardul Thakur in India’s 2023 World Cup squad
Team India announced their World Cup squad earlier this month, which included the bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur. It was visible that he would be the third seamer in the playing XI ahead of Mohammed Shami, as he also adds to batting strength.
However, the decision hasn’t been paying off so far. Shardul has been too expensive with the ball as per the ODI format, which isn’t helping his side in any manner. He also failed to make any impact with the bat whenever he got the opportunity.
With the showpiece event merely a couple of weeks away, the think tank might want to replace him with another player. All the teams are allowed to make the final changes in the squads until September 28.
Hence, we take a look at three names who can make late entry into India’s squad as a replacement of Shardul Thakur:
1) Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar can be roped in to replace the non-performing Shardul Thakur. He was sidelined due to multiple injuries in the past one year. However, he is now completely fit and also expressed his desire to make international comeback.
The right-handed bowler played his last ODI match in December last year against Bangladesh. He has represented the Men in Blue in seven ODIs so far, picking up 10 wickets and accumulating 179 runs, including two fifties.
Deepak has ample experience of bowling in the Indian conditions. His strength lies in exploiting the new ball and troubling the batters. He can be a perfect replacement of Thakur.
