It has to be the greatest heist in the history of the Indian Premier League. It is tough to believe what we have witnessed today. With 29 runs needed off the final over, Kolkata Knight Riders’ batter Rinku Singh smoked five consecutive sixes to snatch the victory from Gujarat Titans.
It was a crazy game as the match was done and dusted when Rashid Khan registered the first hat-trick of the IPL 2023 as the Afghan magician sent back Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Shardul Thakur off three consecutive deliveries. However, Rinku Singh didn’t give up as he smashed Yash Dayal for five back-to-back maximums to pull off the biggest heist in the history of the IPL.
On Sunday, Kolkata Knight Riders squared off against defending champions Gujarat Titans in the 13th match of the IPL 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose to bat first. Courtesy of Sai Sudharsan’s fifty and an explosive knock from Vijay Shankar, the defending champions posted a massive total of 204/4 in 20 overs.
Chasing the total, Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana stitched a massive partnership of 100 runs for the 4th wicket to keep the chase alive. However, Rashid Khan turned the match on its head by picking up a hat-trick in the 17th over.
Rinku Singh finishes the match in a miraculous style
Kolkata Knight Riders needed 39 runs off the final 10 deliveries and Gujarat Titans were looking good to seal their third consecutive victory. However, Rinku smoked a six and a four off the final two deliveries of the 19th over to bring the equation down to 29 runs off the final over.
Yash Dayal came on to bowl the final over and Umesh Yadav took a single off the first delivery as KKR needed 28 runs off the final delivery. What follows next was nothing short of a miracle. Rinku Singh smoked five consecutive maximums to complete a three-wicket victory for KKR.
The fans could not remain calm as they took to Twitter to label the youngster the best finisher of the IPL.
