Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg has praised the BCCI for axing Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma from the Test squad. India are all set to play the rescheduled Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. For the same game, the selectors recently announced the squad led by Rohit Sharma. While Cheteshwar Pujara earned a recall for the national side, the senior pros Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma failed to find a place in the squad.

Now, the former chinaman spinner has lauded the BCCI for overlooking the ageing players in favour of the youngsters.

“They haven’t been performing,” says Brad Hogg on Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma

“I think it’s great that the selectors have removed Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma from the Test team. They have been ageing and haven’t been performing to the best of their abilities of late. You’ve got to move on and bring youth in and rotate them so that they get to experience alongside those who are already experienced,” said Brad Hogg while hosting a Q&A session on his YouTube channel.

“(Shreyas) Iyer is going to spend a number of years batting alongside (Virat) Kohli, learning the game for the longer form and being able to develop a game plan where he is going to succeed. And then you’ve got (Prasidh) Krishna, who will be coming up alongside Bumrah and Shami. So that is a good policy to rotate the players,” Brad Hogg concluded.

For the unversed, Team India is ahead 2-1 in the five-Test series and they just need a draw to complete a historic victory on the English soil. Apart from the rescheduled Test, India will take on the English side in the white-ball series. The Men in Blue will compete in a three-game T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series.
