“The Hitman is back” – Twitter explodes as India defeat England in first ODI courtesy of brilliant knock from Rohit Sharma

What could be more emphatic for a team than watching their skipper leading from the front? Rohit Sharma was at his absolute best during the first ODI against England as he played a whirlwind knock to seal the game. Chasing a modest total of 111 to go one-nil up in the series, the skipper made sure to remain unbeaten till last and gain the advantage.

On Tuesday, India and England kickstarted the three-match ODI series by locking horns in the first game at the Kennington Oval, London. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the vital toss in the overcast conditions and one a green surface to bowl first.

His bowlers responded brilliantly as the pacers breathed fire to rock the English batting line-up. Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian bowling attack to register his career’s best bowling figures. Meanwhile, Mohammad Shami accounted for three wickets and Prasidh Krishna got one. Eventually, the English batting was bundled out for 110 in 25.2 overs.

Indian skipper alongside his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan managed to survive the early burst of swing bowling from the English pacers. However, after getting their eyes in, the openers attacked them to score runs. The Hitman, in particular, was aggressive with his intent and smashed the bowlers all around the park.

In the process, he also completed his beautiful half-century. Rohit Sharma kept attacking the bowlers as India completed the chase in 18.4 overs without losing a wicket. The Indian skipper remained unbeaten for 76 runs off just 58 deliveries, including six boundaries and five maximums.

Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan played a perfect second fiddle to Rohit Sharma with unbeaten 31 runs. The duo ensured to take Men in Blue home without any hiccups. In the end, India completed a dominating 10-wicket victory over the hosts to go 1-0 up in the series.

The fans were mighty impressed with the captain Rohit Sharma and praised the Hitman for his efforts with the bat.
