West Indies’ classic victory over Bangladesh at Dhaka
After getting whitewashed in ODIs, West Indies have managed to pull off one of the most memorable victories in their cricket history. The young West Indies side pulled off a magical series victory over Bangladesh at their own den. The visitors beat the home side by 2-0 in the 2 match Test series.
Chasing 231, Bangladesh couldn’t hold their nerves as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Tamim Iqbal scored a quick fifty but it wasn’t enough as no other batsmen took on the responsibility. As a result, Bangladesh felt 17 runs short in their chase. It is their lowest margin of defeat ever in the purest form of the game.
Rahkeem Cornwall was named as the man of the match for picking 9 wickets in the match. Besides his bowling, what impressed cricket aficionados was his fielding. He is well known as ‘Big Man’ of cricket referring to his weight. Just when Mehidy Hasan was looking clinical and marching his team to a victory, spinner Jomel Warrican joint hands with Cornwall to clinch the victory for their team.
“It was a good performance. The whole team had great energy from day 1. The team management backed us as well. Once the conditions allow you to spin it, I backed myself to spin it. You need to be patient and bowl consistently. I practice hard in the mornings with my slip catching. I just back myself that when the ball comes to me, I will catch it.”, Cornwall said at post match ceremony.
West Indies winning moment
On the third ball of 62nd over, Warrican bowled the ball outside the off-stump with the angle to which Hasan got a thick edge and the ball carried to Cornwall who was standing at the first slip. Cornwall leaned down to his right to take a stunning catch one-handed catch.
