Watch: Riyan Parag smashes a sensational wristy six over covers off Harshal Patel
Riyan Parag is often criticized by fans and pundits alike for not contributing enough despite getting numerous chances for Rajasthan Royals. The Jaipur-based franchise sees something special in the youngster and they have been backing him for a long time now.
However, the Assam-born cricketer hasn’t been able to justify the talent and opportunities provided to him. Prior to the game against Rajasthan Royals, Parag only had a single fifty in his IPL career under his belt.
In the clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals, the top order of the Men in Pink was dismantled by the opposition. The Royals from Jaipur were struggling at 68/4 in 9.3 overs when Parag entered the arena under a ton of pressure.
The youngster looked in a positive mood from the word go and started attacking the opposition from the one end. He went on to smash an unbeaten fifty to push his side to 144/8 in 20 overs.
Riyan Parag scored unbeaten 56 runs off 31 deliveries, including four maximums and three boundaries. He also smashed 30 runs in the final two overs to provide his time with a much-needed finish.
Riyan Parag smashed stupendous sixes off Josh Hazlewood and Harshal Patel
Barring a dropped catch by Wanindu Hasaranga off Josh Hazlewood, it was a spotless knock from the youngster from Assam. Particularly, two shots stood out in his innings – a six off Josh Hazlewood and a six off Harshal Patel.
On the first delivery of the 19th over, Riyan Parag smashed a flat six over cover. It was a full delivery outside off and in the slot, the batter whacked it off the middle of the bat for a stunning six.
The 2nd six was off Harshal Patel’s bowling on the 4th delivery of the final over. It was a seam-up delivery outside the off-stump from Patel and Riyan Parag thumped it over extra cover using his wrists to the great effect.
