    Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the top domestic leagues around the globe. Not just for it’s high quality of game but also for providing opportunities to young buds to showcase their talent and make a name for themselves.

    Every year, dozens of youngsters throw their names in the auction in the hope of getting picked up by the franchises. All the teams strategically invest in the young bloods to gain an advantage in the near future.

    Over the years, many youngsters found a spot for themselves in the playing XI to prove themselves in front of such large audience. In this article, we will look at the five youngest cricketers to make debut in the IPL.

    5) Abhishek Sharma – 17 years and 251 days

    Abhishek Sharma came into the ranks after he was selected for the U-19 World Cup 2018, which India went on to win. He was picked up by Delhi Daredevils in the auction for 55 Lakhs. The left-handed batter made his IPL debut at the age of 17 years and 251 days against RCB. In that match, he smashed an unbeaten 46 off just 19 deliveries.

    4) Sarfaraz Khan – 17 years and 177 days

    Following his impressive exploits at the U19 World Cup 2014, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) signed him in the 2015 auction for just 5 Lakhs. He made his IPL debut at the age of just 17 years and 177 days against CSK. However, he managed to score only 11 runs off 7 deliveries.

    3) Riyan Parag – 17 years and 152 days

    Despite playing a vital role in India’s U19 World Cup 2018 win, Riyan Parag was overlooked by most of the franchises. However, Rajasthan Royals (RR) bought him at the base price of 20 Lakhs ahead of the 2019 season. He made his IPL debut at the age of 17 years and 152 days against CSK. In the same season, he became the youngest player to score a fifty in the tournament’s history.

    2) Mujeeb Ur Rahman – 17 years and 11 days

    Termed as ‘mystery spinner’, Mujeeb Ur Rahman was bought by Kings XI Punjab at the base price of INR 50 Lakhs at the 2018 auction. He made his debut just 11 days after his 17th birthday. On his debut match against Delhi Daredevils, he picked up two wickets in his four overs of spell.

    1) Prayas Ray Barman – 16 years and 152 days

    Prayas Ray Barman is the youngest player to play in IPL history till date. He was picked up by RCB ahead of the 2019 season for INR 1.5 crores. He made his debut in the IPL at the age of just 16 years and 152 days. However, it didn’t go as per his will as he went on to leak 56 runs in 4 overs.
