Indian players have had busy assignments in the recent times. Most of the players were involved in the fifteenth season of the IPL. Following the conclusion of the IPL, India locked horns with South Africa national cricket team in the five-match T20I series.

The series came to a close with both teams sharing points as the fifth and final game was washed out due to rain. The series ended at 2-2. Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli were rested for this series to manage workload.

Meanwhile, all these senior cricketers will turn up for India’s tour of England that is less than two weeks away from getting underway. India will play the rescheduled Test match, three T20Is and as many ODIs against England from next month.

Shubman Gill to open the innings with Rohit Sharma?

In what comes as a big blow to India’s batting department, they will miss the services of Lokesh Rahul for the one-off Test against England. Earlier, KL Rahul missed the T20I series against South Africa due to a groin injury.

Team India are yet to name a replacement, which means that someone else would replace him in KL Rahul’s absence. An Instagram post by the official account of Team India has indirectly hinted that Shubman Gill will open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma for the fifth Test.

Interestingly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India had also posted a clip of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill sweating it out in the nets at Leicestershire. In fact, India are scheduled to play a four-day warm-up match from June 24.

This will help them get acclimatized to the conditions. Meanwhile, the video clip’s caption reads, ‘#TeamIndia openers captain @rohitsharma45 and @shubmangill are getting into the groove on Day 1 of our nets session.’
