Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Gautam Gambhir recently picked Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma as the one who gave him many sleepless nights in the IPL.

Gambhir also hailed Rohit as the most successful captain in the history of the competition. The 34-year-old, who was recently appointed as India’s all-format captain, has won five IPL titles as a captain, the most by any.

Speaking on a Star Sports show, Gautam Gambhir revealed that he was unfazed by explosive batters like Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. However, the former opener stated that Rohit Sharma kept him up at nights during his IPL days.

“As captain, Rohit Sharma is the only player who gave me sleepless nights. Neither Chris Gayle nor AB de Villiers nor anyone else, only Rohit Sharma. He is the player who gave me sleepless nights.” There is no more successful cricketer in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) than Rohit Sharma as captain,” Gambhir said.

Incidentally, Rohit Sharma took over the leadership baton from Ricky Ponting in 2013 and since then has led the side to five titles. He is also one of the highest run-scorers in the history of the game, scoring 5611 runs in 213 matches at an average of 31.17.

Gautam Gambhir to don mentor’s hat for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022

The former cricketer Gautam Gambhir is one of the best openers to represent India across formats. Besides his reputation as a batter, Gambhir has also earned recognition for his technical acumen and shrewd tactics. He led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL trophies in 2012 and 2014 before announcing retirement midway in 2019.

Gautam Gambhir was roped in by the newly-added franchise Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor and will work closely with head coach Andy Flower. This will be the first time Gambhir will be seen in a coaching role.

Lucknow Super Giants will begin their campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 28 at the Wankhede Stadium.
