Not long ago, Gautam Gambhir emerged as a prominent candidate for the role of Team India’s head coach. The development sparked after it was known that Rahul Dravid will no longer continue as the chief coach. If appointed, Gautam Gambhir will inject fresh ideas and perspective into the Indian cricket team.
For the record, Gautam Gambhir, along with WV Raman, was the only applicant to engage in interviews with the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) consisting of Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshana Naik. Speculations are rife that Gambhir is leading the race to become India’s next head coach.’
Not long ago, the two-time IPL winning captain was spotted recording a farewell clip at Eden Gardens. This means that he will part ways with the KKR franchise to take over the reins from Rahul Dravid. Meanwhile, the cricket fraternity eagerly awaits the official announcement of the decision.

What is the reason for the delay in Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as head coach?
According to a report in the Indian Express, the reason behind delay in Gambhir’s recruitment as the head coach is due to the negotiations over salary between Gambhir and the BCCI. The new head coach is expected to join the team starting from the Sri Lanka series.
As things stand, the young Indian cricket team is in Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series. Former Indian cricketer, VVS Laxman is plying his trade as the interim coach. The BCCI advertised the head coach position with negotiable remuneration based on relevant experience, signaling a departure from Rahul Dravid’s reported annual salary of around INR 12 crore.
If the official announcement is made, then it his would mark Gautam Gambhir’s debut as a national-level coach. The veteran has a coaching experience in the IPL and mentoring roles. He previously served as the mentor in the IPL at the Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders.
