The Indian cricket team is dealt with a major blow ahead of the opener against West Indies as their vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja could miss the whole ODI series courtesy of an injury. On Friday, Men in Blue will lock horns with the hosts West Indies in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain Trinidad.

The three-match ODI series will be followed by a five-game T20I series. India have already rested senior players for the ODI series, including the skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The left-handed opening batter Shikhar Dhawan is leading the young Indian side in the ODIs. Meanwhile, the all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was appointed his deputy.

However, as per the latest developments, the left-handed all-rounder has sustained a niggle on his knee and will only be allowed to participate in the game after passing the fitness test. As per a report by Cricbuzz, Jaddu will feature in the game after evaluating the seriousness of the injury. If he recovers in time, he could return for the rest of two games, otherwise, he might have to sit out of the entire ODI series.

Meanwhile, if the sources within the BCCI are to be believed, the senior all-rounder is likely to miss the whole ODI series and he will now only return for the T20I series. The precautionary decision will depend to prevent aggravating the ailment of his left knee.

Vice-captain’s spot falls vacant in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja

The injury of the all-rounder has caused the national selectors and the team management to consider if they need to appoint another player as the vice-captain. However, the chances of the same are low as Rahul Dravid is likely to take the decision within the team. Yuzvendra Chahal, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav could be the best options in the absence of the star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
