IPL 2022: ‘6 4 2 4’ Vintage MS Dhoni scores 16 runs off the last four deliveries, helps CSK to clinch the thriller
The Greatest finisher in the history of the game said hello to Mumbai Indians as MS Dhoni added another chapter to his long book of last-ball finishes.
What a nail-biting thriller it was between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Both sides played their hearts out to clinch a vital victory tonight but it was the game of the margins.
The experience of MS Dhoni smashed a knockout punch to Jaydev Unadkat as the left-arm medium-pacer failed to defend 16 runs off the last four deliveries.
Batting first Mumbai Indians posted a mediocre total of 155/7 in 20 overs. The five-time champions had a terrible start with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan returning to the pavilion in the very first over. However, young Tilak Verma played a brilliant knock of unbeaten 51 runs off 43 deliveries to take his side to a respectable total.
In reply, Chennai Super Kings lost Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mitchell Santner early.
But Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa tried to keep the innings together. However, Mumbai Indians’ bowlers managed to punch above their weight and kept chipping wickets at the regular interval.
The match turned out to be a close affair as the Super Kings required 17 runs in the last over to win the game.
MS Dhoni blasted 16 runs off the final four deliveries to win the contest
With 17 runs required, Jaydev Unadkat bowled the final over for Mumbai Indians. The left-arm bowler picked up the wicket of Dwaine Pretorius on the first delivery to make things difficult for CSK. Dwayne Bravo faced the next delivery and gave the strike to Mahi for the last four deliveries.
MSD blasted Unadakat for a six, a boundary, and a double on the next three deliveries, respectively to bring the equation to four runs off the last delivery. On the final delivery of the match, MS Dhoni smashed the bowler for a four to seal the game in style.
