The countdown for the Indian Premier League franchises to finalize their retention and release list has officially begun and we can expect plenty of exciting things in store. With the BCCI laying down the retention rules, all teams must now decide which key players they will hold onto ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is expected to be scheduled for the third or fourth week of November.

By now, teams must be figuring out which players would fit their philosophy going forward in the next season. Meanwhile, the new rules let franchises to retain a maximum of six players, either through direct retention or the use of a RTM card.

However, with an increase in retention costs, the IPL teams now face a challenging situation, which is choosing between keeping core players or freeing up funds to bid for them in the mega auction. 1. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been a revelation at the top of the order for the five-time IPL champions. He took the captaincy reigns from MS Dhoni in the last season. Under his captaincy, CSK narrowly missed out on qualifying for the playoffs. However, he will be looking forward to sorting out the woes this time around.

He is known for his potential to anchor the innings while also maintaining a healthy strike rate has made him one of the most valuable assets for the franchise. Having been a part of the IPL since 2020, he scored 2380 runs in 66 games at an average of 41.8, laced with two centuries and 18 fifties.
