The Kerala wicketkeeper-batter hasn’t set a foot wrong in his small ODI career but untimely injuries and massive competition in the Indian side have halted his progress. Since making his international debut in 2015, Sanju Samson has played only 11 ODIs in his career.

Sanju Samson got a string of ODI matches against West Indies and South Africa. But as soon as he was looking to cement his place in the team with consistent performances, he got injured while fielding in a T20I game against Sri Lanka. The 28-year-old has scored 330 runs in 11 ODIs at an average of 66 and a strike rate of almost 105.

Currently, Sanju Samson is favorite to replace Shreyas Iyer in India’s squad but he will have to grab this opportunity with both hands. If he indeed scores runs then he could also put pressure on KL Rahul for the wicketkeeper’s role in the team.
