In a shocking turn of events, a fire broke out inside Karachi’s National Stadium just two days before the season opener of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2022).
The mishap took place when preparations for the PSL opener between Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings were underway. According to reports, the fire inside the make-shift commentary box was caused due to short circuit in the power lines during the preparations.

Luckily there were no casualties reported. In the wake of this incident, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has installed a fire brigade vehicle and professionals inside the stadium to deal with unforeseen incidents in the future.
Later it was revealed that the commentary box, which is usually present on the third floor of the stadium, was moved to the ground floor in accordance to the bio-secure protocols put in place for the broadcasters and commentators.
Defending champions Multan Sultan begin PSL campaign with a win over Karachi Kings
Defending champions Multan Sultans off to a winning start to set the tournament going. Opting to bowl first, Multan restricted Karachi to 124 runs. Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam got their side off to a blazing start before Mohammad Rizwan & Co made a superlative comeback.
Veteran leg-spinner Imran Tahir spun web in the middle-order, returning with figures of 3/16 to contain the flow of runs. Shahnawaz Dahani, who was the highest wicket-taker last season, also chipped in with economical overs.
In reply, Rizwan led his side from the front with an unbeaten half-century. He and Shan Masood gave Multan Sultans a decent start to set the tone. Shoaib Maqsood also chipped in with a crucial contribution. Karachi Kings did manage to break the partnership but Mohammad Rizwan anchored the innings to take Multan home.
