Dream was to get debut cap from either MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli, says Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda ran through a lot of issues at the Baroda cricket team in 2021. Things didn’t go well with him and Krunal Pandya. Hooda had a fallout with Krunal and things turned from bad to worse for the former. Deepak Hooda even decided to quit Baroda and shifted his base to Rajasthan in domestic cricket.

Ahead of the white-ball series between India and West Indies, the Board of Control for Cricket in India unveiled the squad. Much to everyone’s surprise, Deepak Hooda received a call-up to the Indian national cricket team. The 26-year-old all-rounder created good impressions in the ongoing ODI series.

Notably, he was one of the promising performers in the ongoing ODI series. Deepak Hooda came out to bat when India lost 4 wickets. He formed a formidable match-winning partnership and escorted Team India to victory in the ODI series opener at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Talking about his performance in the second ODI, he scored 29 runs off 25 balls including 2 fours. Apart from that, he bowled four overs where he ended up taking his maiden wicket in ODIs. Notably, he dismissed Shamarh Brooks. The right-handed batsman top-scored with 44 for the visitors and was trying to mount pressure on India in the run-chase.

However, Deepak Hooda dismissed him at the right time and registered his maiden ODI wicket. Meanwhile, Hooda’s long-cherished dream was fulfilled after he received a debut cap from the former Indian captain Virat Kohli. The all-rounder said that his dream was to receive a debut cap from either MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli.

“I made my debut in the first ODI, it was an amazing feeling. You always work hard for that, before the match I spoke to you (Suryakumar Yadav). I feel blessed to be a part of the side. It was my childhood dream to get a cap from either MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli.

Getting the cap from Kohli was an amazing feeling. I worked on sidelining the distraction and work on my process,” the all-rounder Deepak Hooda told his teammate Suryakumar Yadav in a video posted on BCCI.TV.
