“Birthday Barbad Ben Stokes” – Twitterati bash Mumbai Indians after they lose on Sachin Tendulkar’s birthday
They cannot win this season or can they? Things are turning horrible for Mumbai Indians with each passing game this season. The five-time champions succumbed to a 36-runs defeat against the new entrants Lucknow Super Giants in the reverse fixture.
Mumbai Indians face Lucknow Super Giants in the 37th match of the IPL 2022 on Sachin Tendulkar’s birthday. Searching for their first win of the season, Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first.
The five-time champions were tight with their line and lengths but they failed to remove their nightmare, KL Rahul, from the crease. While other batters keep getting back to the dugout, the stylish batter kept scoring runs at one end. The Lucknow Super Giants’ skipper smashed his 2nd century of the season against the Blues to take his side to a fighting total of 168/8 in 20 overs.
Chasing the total, Mumbai Indians were off to a decent start as they didn’t lose a wicket in the powerplay. However, the Blues started to lose wickets regularly once the powerplay was over. In the end, they could only manage 132/8 in 20 overs to lose the game.
It was Mumbai Indians’ 8th defeat of the season. They have lost eight consecutive games for the first time in the history of the tournament. They are officially out of the playoffs now, while Lucknow Super Giants have jumped to 4th position in the league standings with five wins and three losses in eight games.
Multiple players contributed for LSG as Krunal Pandya, Dushmantha Chameera, and Mohsin Khan were brilliant with the ball. Talking about Mumbai Indians, only youngster Tilak Verma could produce a fighting knock with 38 runs off 27 deliveries. Skipper Rohit Sharma was looking good but got off an ugly hoick.
However, their biggest disappointment of the night was Kieron Pollard as the big all-rounder could only manage 19 runs off 20 deliveries.
Twitterati wasn’t pleased with Mumbai Indians’ performance and based the five-time champions mercilessly.

Lucknow brilliant in defending 168. Promising start by #Rohit, but innings imploded under pressure from LSG bowling, that said most Batsmen dismissed playing poor shots. 8 defeats and not a single win so far this season for #MumbaiIndians. Staggering!
