Bangladesh star cricketer Shakib Al Hasan faces murder charges: Reports

In a shocking turn of events, Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named in a murder case in Dhaka. If the reports doing the rounds are to be believed, former Bangladesh cricket captain and famous actor Ferdous Ahmed were allegedly involved in a murder case.

For the record, the case involves the killing of Mohammed Rubel, a garment factory worker. The murder case was lodged by Rubel’s father, Rafiqul Islam at the Adabar police station in Dhaka. According to the complaint, both Shakib Al Hasan and Ferdous Ahmed are accused of being among the masterminds behind the killing.

Hundreds of others have also been named in the complaint, which alleges that the masterminds played roles behind the scenes that led to Rubel’s demise. As per the reports, Shakib Al Hasan was not present in Bangladesh at the time of the incident.

Murder case filed against Shakib Al Hasan: Reports

The senor pro was reportedly in Canada, leading the Bangla Tigers Mississauga team in the Global T20 Canada league. Despite not being in Dhaka, the allegations suggest Shakib and Ahmed may have had some influence over the tragic events that sent shockwaves in the country.

The murder case has come to light during a period of political unrest happening in the country. Shakib Al Hasan and Ferdous Ahmed, former MPs from the Awami League party, face allegations amid this turmoil. Meanwhile, the former Prime Minister and party leader, Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India after student protests.

Following her exit, legal cases have been filed against her, former ministers, MPs, and Awami League activists across Dhaka. The details of the incident disclose that on August 5 (Monday), Mohammad Rubel took part in a protest procession on Ring Road in the Adabar area of the national capital.

During the clashes that broke out amid the protests, Rubel was shot in the chest and abdomen. He was rushed to a nearby local hospital but succumbed to his injuries two days later. While speaking to local news sources, Inspector Nazrul Islam of Adabar police station confirmed the filing of the case against Hasan and Ahmed, along with other accused. As things stand, the case still remains under investigation and the senior authorities are trying to understand what led to Rubel’s death.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh captain Shanto, during the pre-match press conference ahead of team’s Test opener against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, said, “I don’t think it will affect him because he’s a professional cricketer, and we all treat him as such. He has played this game for so long that he knows his role and how to prepare himself. I am not thinking about his political career, and I hope he will do something special in this series.”
