WATCH: Universe Boss Chris Gayle celebrates after taking a wicket; video goes viral
West Indies cricketers are simply the best entertainers on and off the cricket field. They display raw emotions during the game and it is indeed too fun to play with or against the Caribbeans. They not only show true quality on the field but also entertain the fans with on-field antics.
Among the bunch of entertaining cricketers, Chris Gayle is cut above the rest of the cricketers in terms of entertainment and batting. Gayle has by far been the best T20 batsman in the world. The Universe Boss is the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in the truncated version of the game.
Chris Gayle is part of the West Indies team that is taking on South Africa in the T20I series at home. Earlier, South Africa dominated the Test series by whitewashing West Indies by 2-0. West Indies made a stellar rebound in the T20I series with a win over Proteas.
The hosts got the better of Proteas by 8 wickets to take the first lead in the series. However, Proteas sprung in a surprise by winning consecutive games. They won the second game by 16 runs and for the third T20I, they pulled off the ropes from the jaws of defeat as they won the game by 1 run.
Chris Gayle pulls off a celebration after taking a wicket
West Indies were looking for a win in order to compete in the series. South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Caribbeans found support in the form of Lendl Simmons who smashed 47 off 34 balls with the help of 4 fours and 4 sixes.
While other batsmen didn’t lift the team’s morale, it was captain Kieron Pollard who went about his business and scored an unbeaten 51 off 25 balls with the help of 2 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate in excess of 200. Quinton de Kock top-scored with 60 off 43 balls including 6 fours and 2 sixes.
However, his innings went in vain as he didn’t get support from other batsmen. Eventually, Proteas managed to score 146/9 in 20 overs. Dwayne Bravo was the pick of the bowlers as he took 4 wickets. Meanwhile, a video clip of Chris Gayle‘s celebration is doing the rounds on the internet.
Coming to bowl the second over, Gayle picked up the wicket of Reeza Hendricks as the latter got stumped by West Indies wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran. Soon after taking the wicket, Gayle performed a superb celebration. It is good to see an experienced player, who is 41 years old, still capable of entertaining fans on the field. The sport is truly blessed to have someone like Gayle.
