1. Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal was roped in as captain after KL Rahul decided to leave the franchise to sign for the then newly-introduced team Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, the change in role didn’t work out well for them as they failed to qualify for the playoffs and finished the season in sixth position.
Not only that, the added responsibility affected the performance of Mayank himself. He managed to score only 196 runs in 13 games, averaging 16.33 and a poor strike-rate of 122.50. Giving signals, the Punjab-based franchise has already decided to hand over the captaincy duties to Shikhar Dhawan.
New head coach Trevor Bayliss is also reportedly keen to release Mayank Agarwal and get Ben Stokes or Sam Curran into the side. The right-handed opener currently occupies INR 14 crore in the budget, which could be used to pen down the services of all-rounder to provide more balance.
