Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were one of the two new entrants in the Indian Premier League 2022. Under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir, LSG assembled a strong squad filled with all-rounders. The move worked for them as the KL Rahul-led side reached the playoffs in their first attempt.

The Lucknow Super Giants looked like a strong contender for the championship from the very beginning but a couple of weaknesses in their squad came back to haunt them as they lost the Eliminator to Royal Challengers Bangalore. With the auction for IPL 2023 lined up, the Lucknow-based franchise will be eager to address the issues in their squad.

To do that, they will have to release some players who don’t fit into their system anymore before they sign new ones in the auction for IPL 2023. Hence, in this post, we will take a look at the 5 players Lucknow Super Giants can release ahead of IPL 2023.

    5. Andrew Tye

Lucknow Super Giants signed Aussie pacer Andrew Tye as the injury replacement for English pacer Mark Wood. He does not have express pace as the right-arm pacer mostly relies on pace variations to stay effective.

However, Andrew Tye featured in only three games for the Lucknow Super Giants last season as the team management preferred Dushmantha Chameera over him. In three matches, Tye failed to impress as he could only pick up two wickets and had an expensive economy rate of 9.72.

Mark Wood is fit again and is likely to lead LSG’s pace attack in IPL 2023. The franchise already have several pace bowlers, including Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, and Jason Holder, hence are likely to release the Australian ahead of next season.
