Umran Malik, Tilak Varma, and Arshdeep Singh likely to earn maiden India call-up for the South Africa T20I series
As per the latest developments, the selectors are likely to reward the youngsters for their performances in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. A report from Cricbuzz says that Umran Malik, Tilak Verma, and Arshdeep Singh are likely to get their maiden national call.
India are all set to play the Proteas in a five-game T20I series post IPL. The series will be kickstarted on the 9th of June and it will be concluded on the 19th of June, while the games will be played across five venues.
With the English tour scheduled just after the South Africa T20I series, the selectors are considering two different squads. The seniors, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah, might sit out of the South Africa series and board the flight directly to England.
Meanwhile, the other seniors, including Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Dinesh Karthik, and Hardik Pandya are likely to feature in the T20I series against Proteas.
For the unversed, India are yet to conclude their Test series on the English soil that was halted courtesy of the COVID outbreak within the Indian camp. India is currently ahead in the five-match series 2-1, with the final game scheduled to begin on 1st of the July at the Edgbaston. The Men in Blue will also play a 3-match ODI series and a 3-match T20I series against England after the Test match.

Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Umran Malik has been the talking point of the IPL 2022 due to his fierce pace. Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh has established himself as one of the better death bowlers in the competition. Moreover, India is also searching for a reliable left-arm pacer and the Punjab Kings’ pacer has been one of the most consistent performers in the last couple of seasons.
At the same time, Tilak Verma has made an outstanding debut in the mega-event as the left-arm batter is the biggest positive for Mumbai Indians in an otherwise sorry campaign.
It will be a massive opportunity for the youngsters and the other fringe players to raise their stocks considerably with a strong performance against South Africa and stay in the reckoning for the T20 World Cup later this year.
