Umpire Chris Gaffaney protects MS Dhoni after a CSK fan invades the pitch

On Friday, in the game between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, the umpire Chris Gaffaney was alert to shield MS Dhoni from a fan who invaded the pitch to meet the CSK skipper.

Chennai Super Kings had a disappointing finish to their disappointing season as they were defeated by Rajasthan Royals by 5 wickets. The two teams met in the 68th match of the IPL at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. After winning the toss and batting first, the four-time champions could only manage 150/6 despite a whirlwind knock of 93 runs from Moeen Ali.

Rajasthan Royal completed the chase in the final over with two balls to spare and five wickets in hand. Ravi Ashwin was the star of the chase, who scored unbeaten 40 runs off 23 deliveries.

A fan encroaches the field to meet MS Dhoni

The CSK‘s innings was halted for some time when a fan wearing the yellow jersey invaded the ground and charged toward MS Dhoni to meet his favourite superstar. The incident took place during one of Yuzvendra Chahal’s over when a fan breached the security and ran towards the pitch to greet MS Dhoni.

However, the umpire Chris Gaffaney was alert to the situation as he reacted swiftly by stopping the fan midway and guarding the former India skipper. At the same time, Mahi could be seen gesturing to the fan to return to the stands as the security rushed to the ground and escorted the fan away.

MS Dhoni had an underwhelming day with the bat as the CSK skipper could only manage sluggish 26 runs off 28 deliveries before getting out off Yuzvendra Chahal’s bowling.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals made it to Qualifier 1 after finishing 2nd in the points table with a win over Chennai Super Kings. The Yellow Army, at the same time, signed off from the IPL 2022 after finishing 9th in the points table with four wins and ten losses.
