Finally, the wait is over. Mumbai Indians have won their first game of the season to open their account. The five-time champions defeated Rajasthan Royals by 5 wickets to put their first point on the board after nine games.
Rajasthan Royals met Mumbai Indians in the reverse fixture and the 44th game of the Indian Premier League 2022 on Saturday. Rohit Sharma invited the opposition to bat first after winning the toss.
The Blues’ bowlers did a good job to contain the power-hitting batters of the Royals. Barring Jos Buttler’s 67 runs, no other batter could stick around to make a significant contribution. However, Ravi Ashwin‘s vital cameo of 21 runs off 9 deliveries pushed Rajasthan Royals to 158/6 in 20 overs.
Mumbai Indians completed the chase to win the first game
Chasing the total, the five-time champions lost their skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan early in the innings. However, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma added 81 runs for the 3rd wicket to take the side closer to the total.
Leggie Yuzvendra Chahal then dismissed SKY to bring the Royals back in the game. Moreover, Tilak Verma also followed the senior pro back to the dugout to change the course of the match once again.
Aussie all-rounder Tim David scored unbeaten 20 runs off 9 deliveries towards the end to take Mumbai Indians home. Meanwhile, Daniel Sams smashed the winning shot to send the ball for a six to seal the first game for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022.

With this win, Mumbai Indians opened their account this season but they remain at the bottom of the points table with a single win and eight losses after nine matches. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals still remain in 2nd place with six wins and three losses in nine matches.
As soon as Daniel Sams struck the winning shot, Twitter went into a frenzy as the win came after a long wait.
