Shreyas Iyer who has been in and out of the T20I set up. Apart from his dismal form, he has had injury issues of late. His last T20I came against Australia in late December 3, 2023. His inability to pick up the lessons from his weakness might have been the reason behind him not getting selected for the main event.

Tilak Varma, the 21-year-old talented batsman from Hyderabad has been quite sensational for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. However, he hasn’t quite been able to replicate heroics for India. He scored 336 runs in 16 games including 2 fifties at an average of 33.6.

Rinku Singh’s absence from the main squad raised our eyebrows. The left-hander who has perfected the art of scoring runs at a rate of knots scored 356 runs in 15 games at an average of 89 and a strike rate of 176.2 including two fifties.

The 26-year-old has been named in reserves for the marquee event. KL Rahul’s exclusion from the set-up was something that came as a huge shock to many. He has a truckload of experience in this format, scoring 2265 runs for India including 2 centuries and 22 fifties.
