Team India’s excluded XI for T20 World Cup 2024

Many high-profile cricketers failed to make the cut in India's squad for T20 World Cup 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named India’s 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 just a day ago. The recent squad announcement sparked a spate of debates and discussions over the exclusion of many high-profile cricketers.

There has been a lot of hullaballoo on social media as well, with the majority of the netizens expressing their unhappiness over the squad. It has truly been a historical fact that there has never been a team picked that the cricket fraternity is happy about.

The BCCI had to make bold decisions by picking players based on recent form, consistency, adaptability and the potential to deliver match-winning performances. Let’s take a look at the 11 players who failed to make it to the 15-man squad for T20 World Cup 2024.

Opening slot: Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill

Ishan Kishan’s last T20I came against Australia in November 28, 2023. Since then, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been the preferred opener alongside captain Rohit Sharma. It is understandable that Kishan’s recent form might have forced the selectors to drop him.

On the other hand, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been constantly making waves with the bat in the shortest format. Gaikwad scored 500 runs for India including a century and 3 fifties. Unfortunately, the talented opener missed the flight to the T20 World Cup 2024.

Shubman Gill’s exclusion from India’s 15-man squad shocked many and perhaps his T20I statistics didn’t help him make it to the squad. The highly-skilled batter who has been named in the reserves scored 335 runs in 14 games at an average of 25.5.
