T20 World Cup 2024: 3 players who were unlucky to not find a place in Team India’s squad

KL Rahul has been excluded in India's squad for T20 World Cup 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s 15-man squad for T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament is slated to be held in the United States of America and the West Indies from June 1 to June 30.

Team India will begin their campaign on June 5 as they lock horns with Ireland in New York. Rohit Sharma will be leading the team from the front whereas Hardik Pandya will be serving as Rohit Sharma’s deputy in the marquee event.

There were surprise inclusions in the squad as Shivam Dube received a maiden World Cup call. Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant have been preferred as the wicketkeepers whereas Yuzvendra Chahal makes a return to the team.

The board had to take bold calls in selecting players for the marquee event and unfortunately, some deserving players failed to make the cut in the squad. Let’s now take a look at the three players who were unfortunate to not find a spot in India’s squad.

With Sanju Samson preferred as the second wicketkeeper-batsman along with Rishabh Pant, it leaves no space for KL Rahul, a move that shocked the Indian cricket fraternity. KL Rahul is the big name that failed to make the cut in the squad.

The classy right-hander has a plethora of experience in the truncated version of the game. Having played 72 T20Is, he scored 2265 runs at an average of 37.8 and a strike-rate of 139.1 including two centuries and 22 half-centuries.
