T20 World Cup 2022: Best XI of the tournament
2) Middle-Order – Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Glenn Phillips
Without a doubt, the No.3 spot reserve for Virat Kohli was the highest run-scorer of the tournament. Straight from the first game, he showed his class followed by his consistency. He smashed 296 runs at an astonishing average of 98.66 and a strike-rate of 136.40. The right-handed batter breached the fifty-mark four times.
Next on the list is another Indian batter who was as good as anyone in the tournament. It’s none other than the current ICC ranked No.1 T20I batter in the world, Suryakumar Yadav. Despite his first tour to Australia, Yadav adapted to the conditions very quickly and showed his wide range. He scored 239 runs, averaging 59.75 at an unmatchable strike-rate of 189.68.
Glenn Phillips remains a vital cog in New Zealand’s white-ball cricket team. Throughout the tournament, he ensured that his side reached a competitive total. Despite early wickets, Glenn batted with an aggressive approach to counter-attacking the opponents. He smashed 201 runs in five games at an average of 40.20 and a healthy strike-rate of 158.26.
