“Remember the Titans” – Twitter explodes as Gujarat Titans defeat Rajasthan Royals to lift the IPL trophy in their debut season
Ladies and Gentlemen! We have our champions of the Indian Premier League 2022 – Gujarat Titans. When the new edition of the IPL began, who would have thought that a debutant team will dominate the seasoned powerhouses like this? That a team will cruise its way to the championship almost unhinged. But the team led by Ashish Nehra and Gary Kirsten in the backroom and by Hardik Pandya on the ground has done it.
On Sunday, Gujarat Titans squared off against Rajasthan Royals in the Grand Finale of the Indian Premier League 2022 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bat first. The opener Yashasvi Jaiswal came out with attacking intent, while Jos Buttler tried to take his time in the middle. The young Jaiswal played a bright cameo at the top for the Royals, but once he was departed, no other batter managed to find his rhythm on the big night.
Hardik Pandya‘s sensational spell of 3/17 in 4 overs ensured to restrict Rajasthan Royals for a paltry total of 130/9 in 20 overs.
Gujarat Titans completed the chase easily to create history
Chasing the total, the Titans lost Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Wade early. However, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya stitched a vital 63-runs partnership for the 3rd wicket to steer the Titans towards safety. Once Hardik got out, David Miller came out with his killing instincts and did what he does best – finish the games.
David Miller blasted unbeaten 32 runs off 19 deliveries to win the IPL 2022 final for his team. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill also remained unbeaten for 45 runs off 43 deliveries to ensure the victory for his side.
In the end, Gujarat Titans completed a 7-wicket victory with 11 deliveries to spare to lift their maiden IPL championship.
Twitter could not keep calm after such an enterprising performance from the debutants and praised Hardik Pandya & co.
