“RCB has kept 20 crore for Shreyas Iyer” – Aakash Chopra drops big update

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has dropped the biggest update ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction, saying that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has kept a reserved fund of INR 20 crore for Shreyas Iyer.

Incidentally, Iyer was part of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021. He missed the first half of the tournament owing to an injury when Rishabh Pant was handed over the reins. Shreyas Iyer returned to action during the second phase and was in good form.

However, Delhi Capitals didn’t retain him and went for Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje and Prithvi Shaw. Meanwhile, the two newly-added franchises also didn’t opt for the middle-order batsman in the pre-draft. He is set to go under the hammer during IPL 2022 mega auction, slated to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru.

Ahead of the big days, Aakash Chopra has revealed that Royal Challengers Bangalore, in all likelihood, will go for Shreyas Iyer as a captaincy candidate. The cricketer-turned-commentator also added that the franchise has kept a reserve fund of INR 20 crore for the talismanic run-scorer. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said:

“Someone told to me that RCB has kept 20cr for Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2022 Mega Auction.”

Shreyas Iyer will be the most expensive marquee player – Aakash Chopra

The 44-year-old former cricketer Shreyas Iyer could be the most expensive marquee player at the auction. The IPL on Tuesday revealed 10 cricketers who will be the marquee players in the IPL 2022 auction.

“The most expensive player, to be very honest, is going to be Shreyas Iyer. In this list, the most expensive will be Iyer because Ishan Kishan is not there. If Ishan was there, there could’ve been a tug of war. Now, they will reserve money for Ishan and money will be splashed out for Iyer,” Chopra said.

He also reckoned that KKR and RCB would be looking at him as a potential captain. Chopra also stated that he does not feel Punjab Kings would be eyeing Iyer.

“Shreyas Iyer could be a potential captain of KKR or RCB. I don’t think Punjab would be looking at him,” Chopra added.
