India batter Shreyas Iyer was last seen in action during the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha. The right-hander scored a significant 95 in the crucial game but suffered back spasms in his innings. Soon after that, he had to be inspected two times by the Mumbai team physio.

As a result, he did not take the field for Mumbai. Ajinkya Rahane-led Mumbai beat Vidarbha by 169 runs to clinch the 48th trophy in the 90 years of tournament’s history. Shreyas Iyer danced after the team’s win and the video clip of the same went viral.

However, recent reports suggest that he may miss the initial games for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in upcoming edition of the IPL owing to the back spasms. In 2023, he underwent surgery due to the same injury.

Since he picked up back spasms again during the Ranji Trophy final, it is likely that he might miss the first few games of the IPL. In case he is ruled out of the initial games for KKR, let’s take a glimpse at the three potential names who can fill his shoes at No.3.

1. KS Bharat

KS Bharat made his IPL debut for RCB in 2021, where he scored 191 runs in 8 games including 1 fifty in that season. RCB who purchased him for INR 20 lakh at the auction decided to release him at the end of the season.

Delhi Capitals recruited him for INR 2 crore but made just two appearances for the team. He was roped in by Gujarat Titans for INR 1.2 crore but didn’t play even a single game. However, KKR afforded him for his base price of INR 50 lakh.

The 30-year-old who has made enhancements in his batting in recent times will be looking to make a great impression for KKR in the next season. Overall, he scored 199 runs in 10 games at a strike rate of 122.1.
