IPL 2024: 3 players who can fill Shreyas Iyer’s spot for initial games

Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss the initial games of IPL 2024 due to back spasms as per reports.

India batter Shreyas Iyer was last seen in action during the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha. The right-hander scored a significant 95 in the crucial game but suffered back spasms in his innings. Soon after that, he had to be inspected two times by the Mumbai team physio.

As a result, he did not take the field for Mumbai. Ajinkya Rahane-led Mumbai beat Vidarbha by 169 runs to clinch the 48th trophy in the 90 years of tournament’s history. Shreyas Iyer danced after the team’s win and the video clip of the same went viral.

However, recent reports suggest that he may miss the initial games for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in upcoming edition of the IPL owing to the back spasms. In 2023, he underwent surgery due to the same injury.

Since he picked up back spasms again during the Ranji Trophy final, it is likely that he might miss the first few games of the IPL. In case he is ruled out of the initial games for KKR, let’s take a glimpse at the three potential names who can fill his shoes at No.3.
