Team India’s Test captaincy spot continues to remain vacant after Virat Kohli relinquished his duties after the humiliating defeat against South Africa. In the wake of it, former captain Mohammad Azharuddin has placed his bet on Rohit Sharma to take over the leadership baton.

Kohli stepped down as India’s T20I captain after the T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman. Ever since, there were speculations about split captaincy and eventually the 33-year-old was removed from the one-dayers and the rein was handed to Rohit Sharma, who also took the leadership duties in the shortest formats.

As we continue to ponder over the best candidate to take over Test leadership baton, Mohammad Azharuddin has picked Rohit Sharma as Virat Kohli’s successor in the red-ball format of the game.

Replying to a fan’s query on microblogging site Twitter, Azharuddin said Rohit is the best suited for the job.

Who would be and should be the test captain of India cricket team?” a fan asked.

Rohit Sharma in my opinion is best suited to lead the team,” Mohammad Azharuddin replied.
