IPL 2024: RCB’s strongest playing XI for the upcoming season

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finished sixth in IPL 2023 points table and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are yet to win an IPL title since the inaugural edition of India’s premier T20 competition. They have had chances to acquire the elusive trophy but they lacked the teeth to get the job done in three finals they were part of.

RCB lost their first final against Deccan Chargers (now-defunct franchise) in 2009 and lost their second final against Chennai Super Kings in 2011 before losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2016 final.

They failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last season under Faf du Plessis’ captaincy. However, they made pretty good signings in the player’s auction, with an emphasis on building a pace attack going forward in the next season.

They will begin their campaign on March 22, wherein they will play against Chennai Super Kings in the tournament opener at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Let’s look at RCB’s strongest playing XI for the upcoming season.

Openers: Faf du Plessis (c), Virat Kohli

Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis will be looking forward to ticking the boxes as a captain and batsman in the upcoming season. He is well aware of the fact that his team ran through ups and downs in the IPL 2023 season.

There were chinks in their armor and the opposition teams capitalized on their frailties more often than not. It remains to be seen how Faf du Plessis and Co. will go about their business this time around. Faf du Plessis has been a brilliant batting machine in IPL.

The senior pro scored 4133 runs at an average of 36.90 including 33 fifties. He will be looking forward to providing blistering starts to the team alongside former RCB captain Virat Kohli, who is the leading run-scorer in the Indian Premier League.

It is worth noting that Kohli is the only player in the history of the IPL who completed 7000 runs. Overall, he has amassed 7263 runs at an average of 37.2 including 7 centuries and 50 half-centuries.
