Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were crowned the champions of the previous edition of the Indian Premier League. MS Dhoni and Co. outsmarted Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final to clinch their fifth IPL title and decorated their trophy cabinet.
The Yellow Army will kick-start their title defence on March 22, Friday at their fortress, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. They will play against Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore.
CSK will be eyeing a record sixth trophy in the upcoming season, in what will most likely be MS Dhoni’s farewell season. They bought as many as six players at the IPL 2024 auction and they do have all their bases covered.

Openers: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rachin Ravindra
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been the most successful opener for CSK for the last few years. He won the Orange Cap in the title-winning season in 2021 as he scored 635 runs to his name. His performance saw a decline in IPL 2022 as he mustered 368 runs.
However, he ensured to shift gears in the IPL 2023 season, mustering 590 runs in the team’s title-winning campaign. He is expected to play a vital role in dominating the proceedings with his fearless brand of cricket.
Since Gaikwad’s partner Devon Conway is ruled out of the first half of IPL 2024, the CSK’s think-tank could likely experiment with fellow New Zealand batsman Rachin Ravindra who has all the tools and ingredients to have a successful season up ahead.
