IPL 2022: Twitter bashes umpires after Devon Conway was adjudged LBW in a wrong decision with no DRS available
What drama to begin the ‘el-classico’ of the IPL? The game between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians has begun with a massive controversy as the umpire gave the opener Devon Conway LBW out and the DRS wasn’t available because of a technical glitch. Moreover, the decision seemed very unfair to the batter as the bowl was slipping down the leg with the left-arm angle.
On Thursday, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are renewing the biggest rivalry of the IPL at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. It is a vital game for the defending champions as they are trying to stay alive in the competition. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians are playing for their pride and trying the youngsters for the next season.
Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited MS Dhoni & co. to bat first. The game began with a massive drama and controversy as the umpire adjudged the CSK opener out in a wrong decision and the DRS wasn’t available.
A howler from the umpire costs Devon Conway dearly
Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad came out to bat for Chennai Super Kings while the left-arm pacer Daniel Sams began with the new ball for Mumbai Indians. On the 2nd delivery of the opening over, Sams delivered an incoming delivery and Devon Conway missed it on the flick.
At first look, it looked like the ball was slipping down the leg but the umpire raised his finger. After getting a decision against himself, the Kiwi batter tried to ask for the DRS but it wasn’t available courtesy of some technical glitch.
Conway tried to talk to the umpires and then Rohit Sharma could also be seen talking to the umpires. The CSK camp wasn’t happy with the decision as Devon Conway walked back distraught.

Later, Sams also accounted for Moeen Ali in the same over and Jasprit Bumrah picked Robin Uthappa. Ironically, the DRS wasn’t available for Robin’s LBW decision as well.
Twitter soon exploded as the fans bashed the umpire for a poor decision.

DRS works by #Jio Internet and it’s not working right now because #CSK is batting.🤪 Superb! I am loving it. Itna Toh Banta Hai Mukesh Bhai.😁 #CSKvsMI

So Convay got a dodgy LBW decision against him first ball of the game. And couldn’t challenge the decision as DRS isn’t available right now due to power cut at Wankhede. What to say #CSKvsMI

Such a big league with so much money going into it and yet no DRS because of powercut?? Devon Conway was completely robbed there. That was another umpiring howler by the way! Made it look like such a straightforward decision when it was going so far down leg.#CSKvMI

Unlucky for Devon Conway, the ball was missing leg stump. He couldn't take the DRS due to powercut in the stadium. pic.twitter.com/kyaUJsZw9e
