The night turned from bad to worse for Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant as the wicketkeeper-batter has been fined INR 12 lakh for the slow over-rate against Lucknow Super Giants. It was Pant’s first offence this season; hence he was the only one to be flogged. However, he was reprimanded with severe sanctions upon the repetition of the offence.

The IPL confirmed the penalty imposed on Rishabh Pant with an official statement on the website.

“The Delhi Capitals have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on April 7. As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” the statement read.

As per the rules, if Rishabh Pant fails to maintain the mandatory over-rate with Delhi Capitals, he would be slapped with a hefty INR 24 lakh fine. However, the rest of the team members would also be punished this time around with INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fee (whichever is lesser).

Moreover, if the offence is repeated for the third time, not only Rishabh Pant would be fined 30% of his match fee, he would be banned for one game as well. Also, the rest of the other ten teammates would be fined INR 12 lakhs or 50% of their match fees (whichever is lesser).
