IPL 2022: Mohammad Shami becomes the first player to play all games in a season without getting to bat

After a run of 70 league games and 4 playoff games, the 15th season of the Indian Premier League came to its conclusion recently. The debutants Gujarat Titans etched their name in the history of the mega-league by getting their hands on the championship in the very first attempt.

While many didn’t see them among the title contenders ahead of the season, Gujarat Titans remain ahead of their competition by a mile throughout the season. First, they finished the league stage on the top and then they chose the easy way of winning the championship by winning the first Qualifier and the Final in back-to-back games. In the final, Gujarat Titans brushed aside Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets as Hardik Pandya and co. got their hands on the coveted IPL trophy.

Among all the mayhem, the veteran pacer Mohammad Shami created a unique record in the Indian Premier League which might not be broken anytime soon.

In a unique feat, the right-handed pacer never came out to bat for Gujarat Titans across the whole IPL campaign. Yes, you read it right!!!

Shami is the first-ever player in the history of the IPL to play all the games for a franchise without coming out to bat during the whole season. After being released by Punjab Kings, the Bengal-born pacer was signed by Gujarat Titans in the mega-auction ahead of the IPL 2022.

Mohammad Shami emerged as the leader of the Titans’ bowling with the new ball and provided his team with the breakthrough early in the innings. He accounted for 20 wickets in 16 matches in his first season for the Titans.

Meanwhile, he got ample support from the likes of Yash Dayal, Lockie Ferguson, and Rashid Khan to form a formidable bowling unit.
