IPL 2021: Glenn Maxwell lashes out at toxic fans for spreading abuse on social media

The progress of technological advancements in social media has been tremendous. However, on the dark side, some users are misusing the online portals so much that they are spreading hatred without any hesitation. The world is heading in the backward direction in the first place.

It is also sad to note that these social media portals haven’t taken any measures to take down toxic comments. These types of comments can be seen when the team gets knocked out of the competition. Royal Challengers Bangalore have one of the passionate fan bases but even some portion of the fans lost their cool and showed their dark side on social media.

RCB took on Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator. Virat Kohli couldn’t do much to counter KKR’s masterclass. KKR were rock-solid across all departments. The Knight Riders won the game by 6 wickets and aced the run-chase with two balls to spare. RCB were eliminated from the competition. Virat Kohli has stepped down as RCB captain as well.

Glenn Maxwell lashes out at toxic fans

Soon after RCB got knocked out of the competition, some fans took the loss personally and went on to abuse Daniel Christian and his wife. The all-rounder turned out to be expensive as he conceded 29 runs in 1.4 overs. Sunil Narine perfectly targeted him by smashing three sixes in a row, in what was a game-changer for KKR.

Maxwell slammed toxic fans for their immature behaviour. The all-rounder was not happy with the treatment meted out to Daniel Christian after RCB’s defeat. At the same time, he also thanked the real fans for showing tremendous support.

“Great season by RCB, unfortunately, we fell short of where we thought we should be. Doesn’t take away from an amazing season!! Some of the garbage that has been flowing on social media is absolutely disgusting! We are human beings who are giving our best each and every day. Try being a decent person maybe instead of spreading abuse…,” Maxwell wrote in his Twitter post.

“Thank you to the REAL fans that shared love and appreciation for the players giving their all! Unfortunately, there is some horrible people out there that make social media a horrible place to be. It is unacceptable!!!! Please don’t be like them!!!” he added.

In another tweet, Maxwell posted: “If you comment abuse of one of my teammates/friends social media with negative/abusive rubbish, you will be blocked by everyone. What is the point of being a terrible person? There is no excuse!!!
