IND vs NZ 2023: Twitter erupts as Shubman Gill scores his maiden ODI double century

Shubman Gill hogged the limelight after he pitched in with his maiden ODI double century during the first ODI against New Zealand in Hyderabad. Coming out to bat as an opener, Shubman Gill looked in upbeat mode from the word go.

He nonchalantly caressed the balls with relative ease and succeeded in scoring a mighty knock, which is an innings to remember for the ages for Shubman Gill. The youngster drew plaudits from across quarters of the cricket fraternity.

The right-handed batter was also in superb touch with the bat in the last ODI against Sri Lanka. He scored his fourth ODI century, in what was a perfect start to the ongoing calendar year. Shubman Gill amplified his technique to the next level and went on to score his maiden ODI double-century.

Shubman Gill essays his maiden ODI double century in the first ODI

The 23-year-old scored 208 off 149 balls at a strike rate of 139.60. During his stay at the crease, the youngster smashed a flurry of 19 boundaries and nine sixes to his name and entertained the fans at the Hyderabad stadium pretty well.

Shubman Gill’s mighty innings steered the Indian cricket team to 349/8 in their designated quota of 50 overs. Henry Shipley dismissed the young star in the second ball of the 50th over of India’s innings.

On the other hand, Henry Shipley and Daryl Mitchell took two wickets apiece whereas the likes of Lockie Ferguson, Blair Tickner and Mitchell Santner accounted for a dismissal apiece. New Zealand have a lot of catching up to do to chase down the target and it won’t be that easy.
