IND vs AFG 2024: 3 players who can lead Team India in the T20I series

Team India will be hosting Afghanistan for a three-match T20I series, starting on January 11. It will be India’s last series in the concerned format before they head into the T20 World Cup 2024.

While the Men in Blue were expected to play their full-fledged XI, their camp has already been hit by multiple injuries. While Suryakumar Yadav is already ruled out, Hardik Pandya will also reportedly miss the series.

It will be interesting to see who leads the hosts against their neighbours. Here we look at three possible captaincy options:

1) Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma’s T20I career is still under the radar as he hasn’t featured in a T20I game since the World Cup 2022 semi-final. He was expected to return in the T20I squad against South Africa but he opted out of it alongside Virat Kohli.

If Rohit is fit and remains passionate about playing the T20I format, he will automatically walk into the side. He showcased his form and intent in the recently concluded ODI World Cup.

The renewal of head coach Rahul Dravid also indicated that BCCI want the stick with the duo of Rohit-Dravid for the mega-event next year. So the 35-year-old is expected to lead the side.
